Panama Esmeralda Special Mario Carnival 2010
We have our friends at Klatch Roasting to thank for letting us buy some of the beautiful Esmeralda they won at auction this year. It was very gracious of them to allow us to buy just a little bit of this amazing (and famous) coffee.
The traditional, award winning Esmeralda Special comes from the area known as Mario. This year, north and south of the creek are not separated, and the coffee is grouped by harvest dates. We will have the Mario Carnival, harvested during the Carnival season in March 2010. Mandarin oranges, jasmine and sugar cane are some of the late harvest cupping notes.
From the world famous coffee estate, Hacienda La Esmeralda is holder of 3 world-record auction prices including the unheard of $130/lb final winning bid in 2007. The 2008 crop received a 94 from Ken Davids at Coffee Review who stated "Sweetly bright aroma, with tight-knit complexity: flowers, cocoa, honey, aromatic wood. In the cup lightly syrupy in mouthfeel, sweetly and lushly acidy but superbly balanced, with deep-toned night floral notes, orangy citrus and continued hints of cocoa and aromatic wood. Rich, flavor-saturated finish with a very slight astringency essentially lost in flowers."
Act quickly to try some of this amazing coffee! Sold in 10 ounce bags.
