The Backstory
We love being able to source teas from single estates, where attention to detail and intense quality control separate their offerings from the run-of-the-mill commodity teas available in most places. At the Sewpur Tea Estate, they cultivate their gardens on the plains of the Dibrugarh district in the northeastern state of Assam, the largest tea growing region in India. Their reputation for making great quality organic teas separates the Sewpur Estate from all others. As a Fair Trade Estate, they have built a school and recreation buildings, new roads, and housing for the workers.
All teas are from the camillia sinesus plant; the degree of fermentation determines whether they are green, oolong or black. Black tea is fully fermented camillia sinesus.
In the "full disclosure" department, English Breakfast Tea is typically a blend of black teas, sometimes using inferior "pekoes". For easy searchability, and for those who don't realize that English Breakfast is simply black tea, we list English Breakfast tea separately on our site, but our English Breakfast is simply our single estate, organic, Fair Trade Assam black. Got it?
In the cup, this copper colored beverage is full bodied and slightly malty.
